Betting means risking something- usually money- on the outcome of an event. Betting takes place mostly in sports, but you can bet on all kinds of things, ranging from the results of a political election to the size of a meteor to hit the earth. If your guess about the outcome is right, you win money, and if you're wrong, you lose money.
